About JAMaROOKIDS
In 2001, Jamaica Stevens, Founder and CEO of JAMaROO Kids (formally known as Discovering the Joy of Dance) decided to combine her knowledge of Child Development with her passion for dance, music and teaching. Consequently, she created an Introduction to Creative Movement and Dance class for preschool aged children. In 2004, she was passionate about expanding this program and left her position as Head Teacher at ABC Academy Preschool to embark on teaching these dance classes full-time. Soon after, she added music classes to complement her dance program, which brought about the realization that there was a need for more enrichment teachers and quality enrichment programs for young children in the Bay Area. Therefore in 2006, Jamaica officially changed the name of the company to JAMaROO Kids and began adding additional programs including Yoga, Art and Bilingual classes. Over time, she built a team that served over 100 Bay Area preschools and childcares providing weekly enrichment classes.
JAMaROO Kids expanded by opening their first onsite location in Lower Pacific Heights, San Francisco in the year 2011 which has since moved three times and is now located at 2116 Union Street in the Cow Hollow Neighborhood. The JAMaROO Kids Club offers a large variety of weekly on-site classes and open play sessions and is a wonderful community hub for events.
During the pandemic, JAMaROO Kids was forced to pivot when it lost 150 school accounts overnight. Out of a necessity to stay in business, Jamaica and her most senior staff started teaching classes in different parks around San Francisco and Marin County. Since these outdoor classes were successful, Jamaica decided to continue to offer these classes once the world reopened. Today you can find JAMaROO Kids programs at over a half dozen parks offering weekly music in the park classes year round.
JAMaROO Kids creative work includes hundreds of original children’s songs, curriculum, an online Teacher Training Program, an online program for children, a professionally produced album you can find on Spotify, Apple Music and all major streaming platforms, as well as a published book Yoga Adventure! The JAMaROO Kids YouTube Channel has nearly 600 videos and over 3 million views! Their Teachers Pay Teachers Account is visited by teachers all over the US, and Jamaica herself has traveled to over half of the states in the US, presenting at educational conferences and leading workshops for educators.
This ever-growing company currently offers Dance, Music, Yoga, Bilingual and Art classes weekly in over 125 different preschools, elementary schools, after-schools, family childcares and museums throughout the Bay Area in California and the Seattle Area in Washington State. Their team works with over 4000 children weekly and reaches over 250,000 families annually.
